About me
Background
Luke Deacon is a distinguished artist based in the Noosa Hinterland, whose creativity is profoundly influenced by the coastal environment. He engages in daily excursions to the ocean for surfing, painting, or meditation, which fuels his artistic expression. His artwork reflects a profound personal connection to the coastal landscape and is rooted in a lifelong dedication to painting. In 1999, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Deakin University, where he specialized in Painting under the guidance of the esteemed Abstract Expressionist Bruce Vinall. He was subsequently awarded a scholarship to pursue Asian Art in Japan for his Honors project, where he delved into Zen painting, ceramics, Japanese calligraphy, and the history of Japanese art. As a qualified Art Teacher and Steiner/Waldorf Educator, he has imparted his knowledge in various schools around the globe.
Inspiration
His artistic inspiration draws heavily from the organic forms found in nature, particularly the coastal scenery of Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, his current home. Deacon's work fuses the spontaneity and vibrancy characteristic of Zen painting with a robust foundation in contemporary techniques and plein air practices. His richly textured and painterly creations introduce sculptural elements that explore abstract and semi-abstract landscapes, serving as visionary meditations that penetrate deeply into his surroundings, transcending superficiality to reach the essence of his coastal muse.
